The counselling and psychotherapy diploma program is an online program that is open to any one who meet the prerequisites and who would like to enhance their knowledge and skills in practicing counselling and psychhotherapy as outline and define by the College of Registered Psychotherapist. This course is open to registered nurses, addictions counsellors, correctional facilities workers, physicians, physiotherapist, child and youth care workers, nurse practitioner, registered practical nurses, mental health nurses, community service workers, mental health counsellors, or psychiatric nurses practicing counseling or psychotherapy in their clinical settings. Prior learning credit may be granted to those who qualify.
Course duration 2 year online after login access is issued.
The course requires 450 hours of supervise practicum/internship that can be split in 50 % individual and 50% in a group setting or can be facilitated in their own clinical setting under the supervision of a registered psychotherapist, registered social worker or registered psychotherapist with extensive experience in providing individual or group therapy in an outpatient clinical setting.
Student will be expected to find their own clinical placement in their respective communities. Clinical placement will require approval from the college.
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to provide counselling and psychotherapy in various clinical mental health setting, hospitals, mental health outpatient clinic, public and private agencies, schools, colleges and university settings.
